Shawn Marion desires to be addressed as “world champion”

Tuesday, December 20, 2011

Far more so than usual defending NBA champions, the Dallas Mavericks have been overlooked throughout this shortened preseason. That is due to the fact in the lockout and swirling significant trade rumors, not surprisingly, but also since, in some way, their run via the playoffs didn't have the usual buildup. Couple of people today believed they could challenge for a title in April, and that lack of confidence has spilled over into this season. Maybe, for all they accomplished, they just got hot in a way that can't be repeated.

The Mavs are rather understandably not specially thrilled with these opinions. Just ask Shawn Marion, who has overreacted and now desires every person on the team to be addressed with a formal title. From Dwain Price for the Star-Telegram (by way of TBJ):

"I want y'all to address me like that from now on -- globe champion," Marion mentioned.

Marion is upset that the national media has overlooked the defending world champion Mavs and do not think they have a likelihood of winning this season's title.

"We've gotten to the point exactly where everyone began overlooking us and talking about everybody else and I type of got [upset] about it," Marion stated. "Y'all trying to take one thing away from us that we've worked hard for and we took.

"Everybody on this team has earned the best to be addressed as globe champions, so everyone address us like that."

No, I won't frequently address you as "world champion Shawn Marion," sir, because the designation is itself imprecise. I respect your accomplishments, but there is no way I'm referring to Ian Mahinmi like that. Everybody has a ring, but not everybody supplied similar contributions for the trigger.

Then once again, it is unlikely that Marion truly expects people today to call him "world champion" at every reference. This can be just a approach to draw attention for the Mavericks and get them back on people's minds. To a specific extent, that may occur when the Mavs play the Heat on Christmas, but that doesn't mean it really is not worth reminding individuals just a little earlier.

So, for now, let's humor globe champion Shawn Marion. Everyone with hair that poor deserves our charity.
